Kaid Vendemmia Tardiva 2015
Good full ruby-red. Red cherry, mocha, tobacco and dried flowers on the very smoky nose and palate, accented by minty herbs – exactly what I’d expect a late-harvest Syrah wine to smell like. Juicy, sappy and youthfully tight, but showing terrific cut and clarity to the sweet, suave red fruit flavors. Finishes smoky and long, displaying a firm tannic spine.

Grillo Vigna di Mandranova 2016
Vivid straw yellow. Intense notes of licorice complicate lively aromas and flavors of orange zest, lemon jelly, minty herbs and minerals. Finishes long with a tactile, chewy quality. Made from organically grown grapes, this is actually a very nice Grillo wine. (13% alcohol)

Deep ruby. Very ripe aromas and flavors of sweet grapes, raisins, sweet spices and cured peppery tobacco. The finish is lively and long. A lovely wine. (13% alcohol)
Donnatà Nero d’Avola 2015
Deep ruby. Very spicy nose also speaks of dark plum, tar and licorice. Enters bright and floral, then turn saline and a tad hot, with flavors similar to the aromas. A clever wine that’s easy to like because of its soft fruit flavors and an enticing spicy touch. (14% alcohol)

Catarratto Vigna di Mandranova 2016
Bright dark straw-yellow. Pungent melon and fig, then licorice and earth tones on the nose and in the mouth. Bigger and deeper than the Benedè but lacks that wine’s freshness and precision. Made from organically grown grapes. (13% alcohol)

Kaid Sauvignon 2016
Good straw-yellow color. Delicate aromas and flavors typical of Sauvignon Blanc: green figs, yellow melon and a hint of sage. Then bright, juicy and suave with a lovely gooseberry lift to the flavors that are very similar to the aromas. Finishes bright on the long, zingy finish. Made from organically grown grapes, this is a rather lovely Sauvignon Blanc for hot weather Sicily but it’s not especially deep or complex. Only 13% alcohol.
