Territory

Valuing the territory
is our aim.

Alessandro di Camporeale is a company rooted in the village of Camporeale, a small rural centre that is part of the appellation Monreale Doc in the province of Palermo, in the heart of western Sicily. We are located on a hilly territory between 300 and 600 metres of altitude, well aerated but sheltered from northern weather fronts. These are long settled and marvellous places, with valleys boosting a palette of colours, from corn yellow to the green of vineyards and red of Sulla flowers.

“Alessandro di Camporeale’s aim is making wine with due regard for the history and the features of this land, valuing both culture and the surrounding nature”.

Benedetto Alessandro (Oenologist)

A journey among nature,
culture and experience.

Breathtaking landscapes, archaeological sites, taste experiences. Camporeale’s territory is an ideal starting point for a number of cultural, oeno-gastronomic and naturalistic itineraries to discover the beauties of these places, of their history and their special productions both in the agri-food and winemaking sectors: a place where farming has always been the main activity, with a widespread cultivation of cereals, legumes, olive trees and vegetables, alongside that of vines.

“Our company has always been at the forefront in the promotion and preservation of our territory through the organisation of events, the support of special initiatives and a steady cooperation with other local entities”.

In discovery of a
millennial history.

Our territory coincides with that of the once powerful Archbishopric of Monreale, born under the Norman rule around 1100. The toponymic name of Camporeale derives from the Latin “campus regalis”, i.e. “A field worthy of kings” and its foundation dates back to 1779, when Giuseppe Beccadelli, marquis of Sambuca, was granted the feud of Macellaro by king Ferdinand of Bourbon, a possession which was already back then a remarkable farming land characterized by intensive vineyard cultivation.

“There are several sites, in the surroundings of our estate, that are testaments of a millennial history, such as the castle of Calatrasi, the “Baglio” and palace of the Prince of Camporeale, the Church of Saint Anthony from Padua, the Shrine of the Sinners’ Madonna and the archaeological site of Mount Jato. Discovering these places means taking a dive into the history of Sicily”
